Exceptions to reproduction of collections from UB libraries and archives:


Reproduction requests for badly preserved documents may be denied, restricted, or carried out using safer systems.

Cases in which a reproduction may be refused:

  1. Fragile and brittle documents usually due to acidity in paper composition.
  2. Documents with evident physical damages like creases, tears, folds and insect holes.
  3. Paper documents of difficult handling due to ink corrosion.
  4. Documents whose poor binding conditions jeopardize their integrity.
  5. Documents larger than A3.
  6. Original documents on paper but with paintings or writings in pencil, ink or with other original artistic materials.
  7. Materials with hard or strong binding which requires forcing the document or which makes good reproduction difficult.
  8. Items which have been repaired and are therefore difficult to reproduce.
  9. Unique, rare o valuable bindings.
  10. Contravention of Archives and Documents Law 10/2001 (13 July).
  11. If clauses established in donation and deposit agreements are broken.
  12. Reserved collections which come from legal deposit or an agreement.
  13. It is not permitted to reproduce complete series or 20% of a collection (measured in linear meters).
  14. Unpublished research and items without the express authorization of the authors.
