The incunabula collection is formed by 946 items, mostly from the printing houses from Barcelona and from the rest of Spain. Almost a hundred of these are not found in any other library of Spain and some of them are unique copies.
The most ancient copy in the collection is the first book printed in Italy.
Cicerón. De oratore. Subiaco : Conradus Sweynheym i Arnoldus Pannartz, 30th September 1465.
You can find this material through the online catalogue, using different searching options: - To Search by topographic signature use the option: ‘Other search/topographic’. Type ‘07 Inc’ followed by the nº of the incunabula.
- To search by the printer’s name use the author’s index.
In addition to the online catalog there is a printed catalogue: J. Torra i M. Lamarca. Catàleg dels incunables de la Biblioteca de la Universitat de Barcelona. Barcelona, 1995.
The book lists the items ordered by authors with an appendix of 25 works considered incunabula in other catalogues, but that in fact, are posterior. It has a geographic index of printing places, every entry containing a list of printers names and/or booksellers. There is also an owner’s index.
